Session 24: The Young

Perri, Norris, Eugene, Margaret and Thomas saw a series of clouds coalescing over Cobb's Corners. That coupled with the fact that their flashlights and clocks no longer worked correctly led Eugene to believe that some sort of rift was opening over the town. They started to head back to the MacLearan Farmhouse on foot - after finding that the car would also not start. Captain took them via the camp site of the FOC extraction team - which was now the site of a massacre. FOC soldiers lay dead on the ground - torn limb from limb and trampled by Dark Young or frozen by Mi-Go. Back at the farmhouse, only the barn was still standing - the main house having been torn down. After scouring for supplies and finding the dead body of Larry Nekler, the group set up in the barn. Eugene and Norris went to try and get the truck started and saw a group of 5 children making their way down the road - all armed. They hid and the children bee-lined towards the barn and began dousing it in gasoline. Eugene & Norris took some shots at them and half the group split off to grapple with them. In the end, the children were all subdued with Dr. Matherson just shooting one. As the rain continued to pour down, the group debated how to proceed next.

Session 25: Is That You Mother?

The group decided to walk towards the Cuzra Farm to the standing stones and altar that they had found earlier that day - after Perri collected all the journals and books at the house since she was suffering from a bought of Bibliomania. They passed several destroyed farmsteads along the way. Just after crossing Gismond Road Bridge, they came upon an intact farm with candlelight burning inside and 2 members of the The Young hiding near the back of the house. Margaret, Thomas and Dr. Matherson took watch while Norris, Eugene & Captain crept around the back through the woods to get a jump on the kids and Perri proceeded toward the house itself. As they moved the the woods - Captain, Eguene & Norris saw a Dark Young hiding not too far form where the kids watched and decided to double back to the group. There was some movement and discussion inside the house when Perri knocked but eventually a man with a shotgun opened the door to talk to her and invite her inside to hide. Just then the 2 Young in the back gave out a yell and started running towards the house along with the Dark Young and 5 other cultists from the other side of the property. The man with the shotgun went running towards the back of the house and firing at the Dark Young form inside. Perri rushed inside to find 2 couples - one trying to climb out a side window where a young boy was stabbing at them with a knife and one cowering in the corner. She yelled at them to run for cover and they got up and followed her to the door - where an teenager with a scythe slashed her down the front. The rest of the group sprang into action taking aim at the 2 Young with firearms first. Norris was bludgeoned during the raid and lost consciousness until Captain revived him. When most of the Young had been dispatched, Eugene grabbed Perri and the group followed Captain to a safe space in the treelines. They watched as the 2 couples in the house fled while the man was crushed by the Dark Young before it dashed off towards the fleeing farmers. When the house was clear - everyone snuck back inside and Dr. Matherson patched up Norris & Perri. Then they proceeded toward the Cuzra farm - which they found burnt to the ground. They followed the path of someone crawling through the mud to the standing stones and found Alexandru Cuzra collapsed near the alter - most of the stones having been destroyed by his sledgehammer. They also discovered 30-40 bodies that had been ritually sacrificed piled up at the bottom of the hill. With his lasts breaths Cuzra told them how he had heard the children's ritual and crept up to watch them and possibly the sheriff (his back was to him) sacrificing the farmers - which brought forth the Dark Young. He eventually passed out and when he came too he destroyed the stones until some of the Young returned and stabbed him in the back (Alexandru Cuzra's Tale). He died pointing to the ever-growing rift and saying "It's Coming". Margaret and Norris took turns using the sledgehammer (with Margaret's strength winning out) to destroy the alter itself.
Then the group decided to head into town - approaching from the side near the Town Hall. They found the it burnt down and that that the low hanging clouds from the rift seemed to lessen the rain over which was unfortunate because many of the buildings were burning. Dark Young and the Young ran through the streets leaving bodies everywhere. They saw a small group of the Young led by Amanda Wells trying to burn Mabel Carruthers at the stake - using the books from the Library as kindling. Norris snuck up to untie Mabel while Perri's Bibliomania kicked in again and she began to rescue the soon to be burned books. The others took out the Young - with Eugene being stabbed in the leg by a screwdriver. Once freed, they told Mabel to hide out in the storm cellar and only open if she hears a specific knock. Then they crept a few streets over towards the Town Square and War Memorial. En route, Norris and Margaret heard something/someone moving about inside one of the houses and when they peered into the window saw some misshapen and perverse mockery of humanity with cruel claws and pink-red wormlike pseudopods that were emerging from sacks of pooled flesh. It did not notice them so they continued to the square. There they found 2 Dark Young flanking Deputy John Cutter while he performed bloody sacrifices of the Cobb's Corners residents on altar while The Young sang and danced counterclockwise in a circle around him. Another Dark Young stood watch over a group of eight townspeople waiting to be sacrificed (among them Sheriff Dan Spencer, Richard Wendell, Martha Wilson and Holly Rydell). Eugene saw the cannon mounted as part of the Civil War Memorial was pointed directly at the Dark Young that was standing guard and remembered that the cannon was in working order and used during town celebrations . The group snuck into the Sheriff's Office and found some more heavy duty guns along with wicks and gun powder for the cannon. Perri & Dr. Matherson took a position near the captives while Norris and Margaret readied the cannon and Thomas, Eugene & Captain readied the last 4 grenades to bombard the ritual in progress. The cannon fired off a large rock which hit and stunned the Dark Young. Perri urged the captives to flee to the storm cellar at the Library where Mabel Carruthers was hiding. Eugene, Thomas and Captain threw their grenades - 2 going off simultaneously and blowing up the Deputy and taking out one of the Dark Young while the third was a little short but took out a majority of the gathered Young cultists. Overhead something was beginning to take form in the clouds but as the ritual was interrupted it started to lose is permanence in our world but not before granting a partial view of the goddess Shub-Niggurath. Chaos erupted all over the site. Perri, Norris, Thomas & Captain went indefinitely insane. Perri filled with an urge to live life to the fullest ran and tackled Eugene and they began to make out. Thomas began to scrub himself clean of the unholy images he had seen. Norris was struck with religious fervor and began to pray and preach to Margaret. Captain seemed to suffer from amnesia - not knowing what was going on. After Eugene came up for air he grabbed Perri and began to run her to the safety of the Library storm cellar (along with Dr. Matherson and the captives). Margaret, Norris, Thomas and Captain ran to follow them - seeing Sheriff Spencer try to attack one of the Dark Young but get ripped to shreds. With Perri and the captives safely hidden away in the Storm Cellar, Eugene's maddening bravado drove him back towards the center of town. His friends stopped him on the way - and when he wouldn't listen to reason Margaret and Captain physically carried him back to the cellar. After several hours the sounds of chaos lessened and then stopped altogether leaving the survivors huddled quietly in underground.
