Epilogue

With the Eye of Light and Darkness protecting the 3 places of power - one final location called to the investigators - bringing them back to the cradle of life and Mother of All Cities. The threat of a vanquished foe leads them into a plot of their own - and when the dust finally settles they find themselves waiting anxiously to see what the upcoming eclipse might bring: and end to this story - or the beginning of a new tale of horror...

Session 82: The 2nd Eclipse

The group returned to Nairobi and collected the rest of their things before deciding to make their way to Cairo to reimplement the Eye of Light and Darkness where Roger Carlyle had removed it from the Red Pyramid at Dashur. They said their goodbyes to Avtar Singh who returned to the family business in Mombasa - but promised to keep in touch with Sayed. The 2 week trip to Port Said let them recover both physically and mentally - and let Lee become more adjusted to a life without sight. Arriving in Cairo, they made their way to The Egyptian Museum and spoke with Dr. Kafour who told arranged for them to stay with some of the benefactors of the Museum so they could keep a low profile. He explained that Omar al-Shakti had been seen at a few social events in the city since their departure and had RSVPed to gala at the Museum in a few weeks. They all decided that he was too dangerous a loose end to leave hanging and developed a plan to ambush him after the gala (before attending to the Red Pyramid).

The next 2 weeks were spent gathering supplies and scoping out the route between al-Shakti's plantation and the Museum. On the night of the event, Jean Louis and Lee were parking cars as they arrived "working" for the Museum. They spotted al-Shakti arriving with a young man they did not recognize. After they entered the Museum Jean Luis directed his driver to a parking area where Lee lay in wait. While Jean Luis distracted the driver, Lee crept into position in the very back of the car. At the end of the evening al-Shakti and his companion left driving along a route which led them by an old farm house where Everett and Harley lay in wait with their Elephant guns and Sayed and Jack waited in a truck just past the designated "attack area". Everett was able to take out the driver and in the chaos Lee attacked al-Shakti - only to find that as he died, his body transformed into that of his companion. His companion, having been hurt in the crash transformed into al-Shakti. All 5 men moved in to witness his final breath - and as they watched, his eyes blackened and the voice that spoke through him was that of Nyarlathotep. He congratulated them on a game well played and said that The One Who Sleeps was verily amused by the antics they caused and continued to mercifully slumber - for now.

With al-Shakti dispatched, the next day they traveled to Dashur with Dr. Kafour and some of his like-minded colleagues who helped them to re-create the Eye to guard the Bent Pyramid's only inhabitant.

Hoping but not knowing if their work had been in vain or not - they decided to stay in Cairo and wait out the coming eclipse. The five men sat at a cafe in Cairo on January 14, 1926 sharing food and drink and companionship as they eclipse began - and ended without incident. After that they went their separate ways - but after an adventure such as this where the stakes were Earth-shatteringly high, none of them ever really stopped waiting for the Crawling Chaos to come writhing its way back into their lives - and every so often a shiver would run up their spines simultaneously (though they were unaware of this) as if something was watching them just out sight....in the darkness....waiting....
